MEDIATION is a conflict resolution process in which a neutral third-party, the mediator, helps the parties reach a settlement.

ARBITRATION is a conflict resolution process in which a neutral third-party, the arbitrator, individually or along with other arbitrators, renders a decision on the dispute.

APPRAISAL is a conflict resolution process in which a neutral third-party, the umpire, along with the parties’ appraisers, reach a valuation of the insured loss.

A Hall of Fame graduate of Chamberlain High School in Tampa, Mark Shelton received his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Richmond in 1974, where he was a scholarship athlete who started at cornerback on a Spider football team that cracked the AP Top 20. He earned his law degree from South Texas College of Law in January of 1979, as a Magna Cum Laude graduate (top 5%), a published Casenote Editor of the Law Review, an Honor Court Justice, a member of several Moot Court teams and the recipient of the highest grade in the Civil Trial Advocacy course.

Mark became licensed to practice law in Texas in 1979, licensed to practice law in Florida in 1980 and is currently a member of the Florida Bar, the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida and the U.S. Supreme Court. Other current memberships include the Florida Windstorm Insurance Network, the Florida Circuit-Civil Mediators Society and the National Academy of Distinguished Neutrals.

Mr. Shelton earned his Florida Board Certification as a Civil Trial Lawyer in 1985 and kept that certification in force until 1995. In 1989 he became a Florida Supreme Court Certified Circuit-Civil Mediator and Arbitrator and in 2006 Mark became a Florida Windstorm Insurance Network Certified Umpire.

Mark has earned the highest possible rating (AV Preeminent) in both legal ability and ethical standards from Martindale-Hubbell and Lexis-Nexis, has been designated as a Tampa Bay Top Rated Lawyer and is listed as a highly regarded expert in the Alternate Dispute Resolution section of the Law and Leading Attorneys Florida Consumer Guidebook. Since 1989 Mark Shelton has served as a Mediator, Arbitrator or Umpire in some 7,000 matters.

After returning to Florida in 1980, Mark practiced law in Tampa until 1989 when he opened his office in the northern suburb of Lutz where that office remains. Mark and his wife reside in the New Tampa area where much of their leisure time has been devoted to their son’s competitive soccer activities. Mrs. Shelton serves as the Business Director for a large regional youth soccer club with operations and fields in three Tampa Bay area counties and their son is a Division I collegiate student-athlete in North Carolina.

Mark is proud to have received a Scholar-Athlete Award from the Tampa Chapter of the National Football Foundation and to have later served as its President. He is equally proud to have received the Bill Wade Unsung Hero Award from the All-American Football Foundation for outstanding performance in his profession. Mr. Shelton is also pleased to have given back to the community by having served as the President of Habitat for Humanity of Central Pasco County, a local affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, by having served as the President of the Black Watch Soccer Club and by having served as a Vice-President and the Secretary of the Fusion Futbol Club of Tampa Bay.
